Alongside iOS 18.1, Apple released the macOS Sequoia 15.1 update. This update makes the first wave of Apple Intelligence capabilities available to Mac users and has a few changes unrelated to artificial intelligence. In the following, we will review the changes of this version.
Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 artificial intelligence capabilities
The Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 update brings Apple’s first artificial intelligence capabilities to users of Macs M1 and later. These features include:
- New Siri: Siri now has a fresh look, a new typing mode and more flexibility in managing requests. Of course, more upgrades will come in future updates.
- Summary of notifications: The content of notifications is summarized with the help of artificial intelligence.
- Writing Tools: With these tools, you can reread, rewrite and rearrange texts. In the future, ChatGPT will also be included in this tool.
- Clean Up in the Photos app: Easily remove unwanted objects from images.
- Use natural language to search in Photos: Navigate between images and videos with your natural language.
- Prioritize messages in Mail: Artificial intelligence in the email app exposes the most important emails to you.
- Smart reply in Mail and Messages: Suggested answers are better than ever.
- Summary of messages in Mail and Messages: Summarizing messages is done better than before.
The macOS Sequoia 15.1 update also brings improvements to iPhone Mirroring, which was first introduced in macOS Sequoia. Now, as an alternative to AirDrop, you can use this feature to transfer files and images between your Mac and iPhone.
The battery menu in the Mac menu bar also has a new option called Low Power Mode to easily enable or disable battery saving mode.
The macOS Sequoia 15.1 update has been released for all computers that can run macOS 15. But Apple Intelligence features are only available for Macs M1 or later. Also, considering that Apple’s artificial intelligence capabilities are still in the beta stage, to access them, you must enter the waiting list and meet prerequisites such as setting the device language to US English.
