The European Union’s AI Pact is a voluntary agreement aimed at guiding companies to comply with future rules on artificial intelligence, but so far some tech giants have refused to sign up. Apple and Meta Among the companies that have refused to sign this agreement and have limited some of the artificial intelligence features of their services for EU users.
Earlier this year, the EU introduced the AI Pact, aimed at speeding tech companies’ compliance with its AI law in the coming years. Companies signing this voluntary agreement receive principles on topics including data governance, accountability and workforce training, and regulatory advantage.
companies signing the agreement; Refusal of Apple and Meta
According to Politico, more than 100 companies, including OpenAI, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung, have signed up. But the names of two big companies, i.e. Apple and Meta, are not seen in this list.
In this regard, Apple has announced that it is in direct contact with the EU authorities, but has not signed this voluntary agreement.
Anna Kuperian, Meta’s spokeswoman, also told Politico in a statement:
“We welcome harmonized EU legislation and are currently focusing on AI with regard to the AI Act, but we do not rule out joining the AI Treaty at a later stage.”

This report has been published as regulators around the world are currently scrutinizing major technology companies regarding data privacy and algorithmic decisions. This can contribute to the non-acceptance of the EU treaty by various companies.
Of course, Apple and Meta, without participating in this so-called voluntary program, are forced to release their new AI products and services a little later or with strict supervision in Europe.
