Gmail users on Android devices can now chat directly with Google’s dedicated AI assistant, Gemina, about their emails in the Gmail app.
According to a report on Google’s blog, the company recently rolled out the new Gmail Q&A feature to Gemini subscription plan users, and says the feature will also be available for iOS devices.
With Gmail’s Q&A feature, users can access Gemina’s artificial intelligence instead of a personal assistant in this application. This personal assistant can read your entire email inbox. Google says you can ask Gemina to summarize emails with various commands. You can also use this feature to search for specific details; For example, ask Gemina, “How much did the company spend on the last marketing event?”
Of course, when using this feature, you should also consider the problems and incorrect answers of artificial intelligence; You should not trust everything that comes your way.
If you want to find information manually in your Gmail, you can use the search bar at the top of the page; The manual search option is still available, but a gemina button is also added next to the search bar. All this is part of Google’s paradigm shift in search and chat with artificial intelligence.
How to use Gmail’s new artificial intelligence feature
Gemina subscription plan users can access this feature by clicking on the top right corner of the Gmail app and the black star icon that represents Gemina in the Google product portfolio. Currently, the Gmail Q&A feature only has access to your emails, but in the future, Google says it will also connect to files in your Drive account.
Gmail Q&A was recently rolled out to Gmail web users who have purchased a Gmail subscription or Google One AI Premium account. Google also adds Gemina AI to all its existing products, including Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc., but users must buy a subscription to use Google’s proprietary AI in these products.
