Ycombinator accelerator is one of the biggest and most attractive accelerators in the world. The past few days witnessed the Ycombinator winter demo. In the following, we can see a summary of the startup trends observed from this demo from Aynak TechCrunch.
Statistics and trends of Ycombinator’s acceleration period and winter delay: less than 1% of proposals entered the acceleration period.
247 startups and companies were present at Ycombinator’s winter demo. The winter acceleration period of the accelerator actually included 260 startups. These startups were selected from more than 27,000 submitted proposals. (Less than 1% of the proposals ended up in startups.)
Of these, 86 companies (more than 30%) called themselves “artificial intelligence startups”. But more than 50% of startups used some kind of artificial intelligence in their product development.
From YC’s point of view, AI is doing to startups today what mobile phones did to startups in the early 2000s and exactly what the Internet did to startups in the 90s.
- 65% of the startups of this acceleration period operate in the SaaS field as B2B.
- 11% of startups serve consumers.
- 10% of startups are in the field of health.
- 8% of startups are in fintech.
- 4% of startups provide services for industries.
- 1% of startups are in the field of governance technology.
- 1% of startups are in the field of educational technology.
The end of this YC acceleration period means the growth of the overall portfolio of this accelerator to 4,500 startups and more than 11,000 founders.
