Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources, that Apple is in talks to use Google's Gemina artificial intelligence models in the iPhone. It seems that this negotiation is for Apple to use Gemini models to power some AI features in iOS 18. According to these knowledgeable sources, Apple has recently discussed with OpenAI and is considering using its artificial intelligence model.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is seeking a license to use Google's Gemini for AI-based features on the iPhone. In addition, the company has been in discussions with OpenAI for the possible use of GPT models.
If the negotiations between Apple and Google come to fruition, their agreement will probably be based on the search engine agreement of the two companies. For years, Google has been paying Apple billions of dollars annually to make Safari the default search engine.

In the field of artificial intelligence, there is a lot of pressure on Apple to close the gap with competitors such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Anthropic and even Google. Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company would introduce generative AI features by the end of 2024.
Also, the company's hiring list last year shows that Apple has been working on several internal AI tools. However, possible negotiations to use third-party AI technology mean that Apple's efforts to develop in-house AI have not made significant progress.
Of course, Apple may add some of its internal artificial intelligence capabilities in the upcoming updates of the iOS 18 operating system. But it seems that the company still needs to partner with another company like Google or OpenAI in order to have a strong presence in the highly competitive AI space.
