The film industry, including Hollywood, is not facing the revolution of directors and actors, but the revolution of artificial intelligence, which will transform the future of this industry.
While artificial intelligence is showing itself more and more in various fields, the film industry is no exception to this rule, and the pioneers of this field have been working on using this technology in film production for a long time.
Pioneering companies in Hollywood are creating ultra-realistic digital versions of actors using detailed scans of their bodies, faces and voices. These AI-built models then learn to mimic behaviors, expressions, and even vocal stutters, creating virtual actors that are virtually indistinguishable from reality.
The things that can be done using this technology are countless and tempting. Old actors can be transformed into children for a flashback scene, or completely dangerous activities can be performed with the help of a digital version of the actor. Studios can even make endless points with digital versions of stars by having exclusive rights to use them, while they'll be forever young and forever bankable.
However, the consequences of these developments are still not clear and specific federal laws have not yet been developed for it. This technology can affect the activities of the actors, and on the other hand, the use of the digital version can have its own risks and, for example, it can be used without the owner's consent. An issue that brought massive protests in Hollywood. Therefore, it is clear that this area needs legislation before becoming widespread.
Now Hollywood talent agency CAA is leading the technology, not in opposition to it, but in sync with it. They see this technology as an extension of their clients' careers and a window into creative and unknown capabilities. The digital versions created by this agency will belong to the actors, athletes, content producers and other figures themselves, and in general, it can be said that CAA is working on ethical frameworks in this digital frontier in addition to advancing artificial intelligence technology in filmmaking.
This agency believes that not accepting progress is not logical and responsible, but it should be accompanied by a rational and fair view. This video from the Wall Street Journal takes a look inside the CAA Hollywood studio.
