YouTube seems to have been down since Wednesday evening. Fortunately, the video platform has reported that it is now back up and available.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m. ET (2:30 a.m. ET), users experienced video playback errors, according to data from Downdetector and Google Trends. YouTube confirmed the outage shortly after 8:00 PM EST (3:30 AM IST) and mentioned it on its official X account. The post also directed users to the YouTube community page for continuous updates.
“We know some of you are having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now,” Google spokesperson Dwight Harvey wrote. We are investigating the matter and will update the latest information in this thread. We sincerely thank you for your patience.”
YouTube then reported that the problem had been fixed about an hour and a half after it first appeared. Harvey continued, “We confirm that this issue has been resolved across all YouTube services. Thank you again for your patience.”
However, it is still unclear what exactly caused the outage, but Downdetector data and YouTube statements indicate that the outage affected all three platforms: YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV. It’s also unclear exactly how many users have been affected, although reports from various countries suggest many people are experiencing problems.
