Samsung’s smart glasses that run the Android XR OS are set to be a competitor for Meta Ray-Ban glasses. Reports indicate that the glasses will be introduced at an unpacked event on September 1.
According to ZDNet, Samsung’s smart glasses that work with artificial intelligence and will be Meta Ray-Ban, one of the three advanced devices Samsung plans to unveil at the Unpacked event in South Korea on September 9. Two other products include the XR Headset of the Mohan Project and the Triple Smartphone.
Like the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, the Samsung glasses will be only audio and will focus on features such as quick and comfortable access to artificial intelligence, cameras and calls, music and podcasts. Also, according to reports from South Korea, Samsung glasses will include navigation capability, live translation and situations.
The possible product name will be based on Samsung’s patent in the US patent office, Samsung Galaxy Glasses. In addition, according to Samsung’s previous statements, Google and Qualcomm, Galaxy Galaxy Glasses will run and will probably use the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, the same chip used in Meta Ray-Ban, though Qualcomm’s next generation of Snapdragon AR1+ Gen.
In a key lecture by Google I/O on May 1, Shahram Izadi, general manager of Android XR, announced, “We will take our partnership with Samsung to the next level and extend the Android XR beyond the headsets. We provide reference software and hardware platform to create ecosystem and produce high quality glasses. The prototypes of our glasses are now used by trusted testers. ”
Ansel Sag, Moor Insights & Strategy’s analyst, sees a clear path for Samsung in this area. “Samsung really understands this area, and given all the information we have about wearables, Samsung produces some of the best hardware available, and this could be a very powerful solution if it is able to launch competitive hardware with Google Jamney and Android XR,” he said.
However, Sag believes that there was not enough time for Samsung to make the next generation chip of the Snapdragon AR1+ G. 1, which was introduced this spring, promising a 5 % reduction, less energy consumption, better image quality in photos and video, device language models, and privacy with less artificial intelligence data to its cloud.
We must not forget that before the introduction of Samsung on September 9, Meta plans to unveil its next smart glasses at Meta Connect on September 9. Meta is expected to launch two products: an AR glasses for $ 2 called Hypernova password and a partial upgrade for its popular Meta Ray-Ban audio glasses.
Also this fall will also be introduced in the field of smart glasses from Rokid, Even Realities, Brilliant Labs and others.
