After the widespread delay in the release of the One UI 7.0, the Samsung One UI 8 released a very fast speed. Galaxy Zed Flip, Galaxy Zed FE 2 and Galaxy Zed Fold 2 were the world’s first phones to run Android 2 by default; Because Samsung plans to go along with the new Google development process. The Korean company intends to match the speed of Google’s software updates to release One UI updates.
Google already uses a branch development model for Android development. For each new version, Google is developing a new code of the code and adding features to it until development was completed and ready to be released. Then, this manifestation was integrated with the main branch of Android development. However, it had many drawbacks, because the codbis was very large and the integration of such cods was rarely done well. So Google took more time to fix these bugs and incompatibility.
In addition, if a feature was not prepared until the time it was released, the engineers would have merged the unfinished code into the mainstream, eliminate the bugs, and continue the unfinished work for the next publication. To solve these problems, Google has come to a Trunk -based development model called Trunk Stable. In this model, all the development stages are done in the internal Android internal and must always be stable. All new APIs and features are hidden behind “Feature Flags”, so it will not be visible in the general versions of Android.

After the development of the APIs and features, their flags are activated. The release of Android 4 due to the use of the Trunk Stable model occurred three months earlier than previous versions. Sally Hyesoon Jeong, Executive Vice President and CEO of R&D in Samsung Mobile Experience, said during a conversation with the media that the company is using Google’s Trunk -based model to develop the One UI 8 and has been able to publish it much earlier.
He also added that Samsung plans to match the speed of the One UI in the future with Google’s Android updates. If Samsung reaches its goal, one can expect sustainable versions of the One UI interface sooner than ever before.
