The Fairphone 4 modular smartphone, which was introduced in Europe in 2021, has now been launched in the American market.
This phone was released by Murena, a company specializing in “De-Googling” Android phones, and unlike the European version that ran Android, it runs the “e/OS/” operating system.
e/OS/ is essentially a Google-free operating system with a focus on privacy, aimed at those who refuse to share their data with Google. The operating system has an app store that includes Murena Cloud apps for accessing email, calendar, and cloud storage. The operating system’s app store, although it highlights the privacy rating for each app, seems to get most of its apps from the Play Store. Of course, Murena claims that the private information of users will not reach Google in any way.
The price of the Fairphone 4 starts from $629.90 for the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and reaches $699.90 for the version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone supports a microSD card and the modular system will allow you to change parts with a standard Phillips screwdriver. Fairphone 4 supports the IP54 standard for protection against dust and water and has the ability to connect to the 5G network and dual SIM.
The phone comes with a five-year hardware warranty, and there are no adapters or cables in the box, just the phone itself and a quick start guide. Fairphone 4 was able to receive a repairability score of 10/10 from iFixit, which is a very rare occurrence in the phone world.
The rest of its specifications are the same as the 2021 model, which includes a 6.3-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 60 Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 750 chip, a triple rear camera system with a 48-megapixel main camera and optical image stabilization, a camera Ultra-wide with autofocus and a ToF 3D sensor, a 25-megapixel selfie camera and a 3905 mAh battery with 20W wired fast charging technology.
