WhatsApp has introduced a new chat history transfer feature that makes it easier to get chats and files to a new device without using cloud backup. With this new feature, WhatsApp users will receive a QR code on their old device that contains their backup history and can be transferred locally to the new device via Wi-Fi Direct.
The new chat history transfer feature is available for WhatsApp beta users and currently only works for transferring between similar operating systems, i.e. Android to Android and iOS to iOS. This process includes going to WhatsApp Settings -> Chats -> Chat Transfer.
As WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta has said that chat history will only be shared between two users’ devices and will be encrypted during the transfer process. This feature is useful when you have larger backups that won’t fit in cloud storage.
