HMD Global Company has unveiled a new phone called Nokia G42, which users can repair by themselves if its parts are damaged. This phone is HMD’s second phone in the QuickFix series and the first phone in the Thin series with 5G connectivity, but its quick and easy repairability is on par with the Nokia G22 that was introduced earlier this year.
You can replace a cracked screen, dead battery, broken USB-C charging port or damaged back cover. So you no longer need to throw away the phone or go to repair centers to repair it. HMD has partnered with iFixit to provide replacement parts, and you can follow simple instructions to replace them at home. Such a thing rarely happens in the world of smartphones.
iFixit will provide replacement parts for the G42 for up to five years, and HMD has a three-year warranty in the UK. Nokia G42 has passed a series of durability tests to ensure long-lasting battery life. Its battery will retain 80% of its capacity after 800 charge cycles, which is about four years. Its software is Android 13, which will receive up to two major updates and three years of monthly security updates. So the G42 will last at least three years.
HMD has launched its new phone in a bright purple color to attract more customers and has also given it a pale gray color. The specifications of G42 are also tempting and it can be seen as a 6.56-inch panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ chip with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, a 5000 mAh battery, NFC connection and a MicroSD card slot. 3.5mm headphone jack pointed out.
There is a 50-megapixel camera on the back panel along with a 2-megapixel depth camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera is used on the front panel. The thickness of this phone is 8.55 mm and its weight is 193 grams. The phone supports the IP52 waterproof standard and has an integrated two-piece design with a back panel made from 85% recycled materials and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The Nokia G42 will go on sale from June 28 via Nokia’s website for £199 ($252).
