YouTube today announced changes to its platform’s impersonation rules to combat fake accounts. According to these comments, YouTube fan channels must now clearly state that they are not affiliated with the YouTubers they support.

YouTube claims that these rules will prevent the re-posting of content created by other YouTubers. For example, now fan channels cannot republish the content produced by their popular YouTuber or choose the same name, avatar and banner for their channel as other channels. These channels will also no longer be able to distinguish their channel name with a space, period or other symbols. YouTube has also announced that in case of violation of these rules, the account of the wrong user will be completely closed and there will be no news of the previous penalty system.
The increase in the number of videos republished from famous YouTubers by fake accounts and making money in this way in recent times has made YouTube change the aforementioned rules. This trend has also been seen on other video sharing platforms, such as Instagram and Tik Tok, and is not a new issue, but it seems that YouTube is planning to tackle this issue more seriously. YouTube’s new rules are supposed to be applied on this platform from August 21, 2023.
