NASA has just published an image of lightning in one of the storms on the planet Jupiter, which was recorded by the Juno spacecraft. This lightning is made of water and ammonia solution and is different from earth lightning.

In 2020, the Juno spacecraft managed to record the mentioned image in its third orbit around the planet Jupiter, but NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory started processing it last year and published it today. Juno has now orbited Jupiter about 50 times and recently captured an image of the volcanic moon Io, the largest volcanic moon in the Solar System.
Last year, Juno also recorded images of the icy moon Europa, according to which, the existence of a subsurface ocean on this planet is almost certain. NASA will soon send a probe to the moon to investigate this issue more closely. Jupiter has a stormy atmosphere, and its central red spot, which is larger than Earth, has been on the planet for many years. NASA expects to see more lightning in the storms of the planet in the future.
