Samsung today announced that it has developed the industry’s first 24GB GDDR7 RAM. This RAM is designed for data centers, artificial intelligence workstations, as well as for consumer use in graphics cards, game consoles, and autonomous driving.
This new memory has twice the capacity of last year’s 16 GB GDDR7 RAM. The chip is built on the fifth-generation 10nm class process, which has increased the cell density by 50% while maintaining the same size as the previous generation.
Thanks to the use of three-level pulse modulation (PAM3), the speed of this memory has reached 42.5 Gbps, which is 25% more than the previous version. Also, the improvement of energy efficiency has been announced by more than 30%.
Validation of 24GB GDDR7 RAM in large AI systems by GPU customers will begin this year. The commercialization of this chip is also planned for early 2025.
