According to The Information news website, Meta Company plans to cancel the production of the premium mixed reality headset, which is considered a competitor to Apple Vision Pro.
The Information reported on Friday that Meta plans to develop a premium mixed reality headset have been canceled. This headset was designed to compete with the Apple Vision Pro.
In this report, quoting two Meta employees, it is stated that the company has announced to the employees of its Reality Labs department to stop working on this device after holding a meeting to review the production of this product.
The report states that the premium headset, codenamed La Jolla, was slated to launch in 2027 and feature an ultra-high resolution micro OLED display. This screen is also used in Apple Vision Pro headsets.
Last year, with Apple’s entry into the virtual and mixed reality headset market, this industry gained attention again, but the $3,500 price of the Vision Pro headset has hampered sales of this product.
Meta’s Reality Labs division, which is responsible for developing and marketing the Quest line of headsets, has suffered billions of dollars in losses. However, CEO Mark Zuckerberg still envisions a bright future for augmented reality and virtual reality technologies.
The Quest headset series includes the Quest 2 for $200 and the Quest 3 for $500. According to The Information, Meta discontinued the Quest Pro in 2023 after poor sales and feedback, which was the most expensive headset in the series at $999.
