According to a comprehensive review of paid subscription mobile apps, most of them are not monetizing.
This report titled 'The State of Subscription Programs' comes from a paid subscription tool provider called RevenueCat. With a community of over 30,000 apps using the platform to manage paid subscription revenue, the data collected in this report can be trusted.
The analysis looked at data from more than 29,000 applications and 18,000 developers, representing approximately $6.7 billion in revenue and 290 million subscribers. RevenueCat's findings show that the top 5% of subscription apps earn 200 times as much as the bottom quarter, and the average monthly app revenue after one year of release is only $50 per month.
Only 17.2% of the programs exceed the monthly income of one thousand dollars. Achieving this important step will be very critical because it increases the probability of earning more and 59% of the programs have managed to earn $2,500 after this stage and 60% have reached the $5,000 stage. Only 3% of the programs managed to earn $10,000 per month.
Programs in the health and fitness sector generate nearly twice as much revenue as all other sectors combined, both among the bottom quarter and the top 5 percent. On the other hand, travel and productivity apps are very challenging, and even the best ones can't earn $1,000 a month after a year of release.
Despite all these statistics, the market of paid subscription mobile apps is still growing and the average price of monthly subscriptions has increased from $7.05 to $8.01. It is also mentioned in the report that we have recently witnessed a change in the behavior of consumers and a 14% drop in user retention has been reported in a 12-month period.
