The CEO of SpaceX recently told the US Senate Science and Space Committee that the company plans to conduct more launches in the coming months to reach 100 launches by the end of this year.
He also said that SpaceX has an ambitious goal for 2024: about 12 launches per month, for a total of 144 missions per year. In an interview with Ars Technica, one of the company’s spokespersons said that the goal of the company to increase the number of its missions next year is to be able to officially launch its satellite-to-mobile phone service.
SpaceX first introduced the service in 2022, which allows smartphones to connect to satellite internet. The company is going to do this in cooperation with T-Mobile. The CEO of T-Mobile likened this technology to placing a telecommunication tower in the sky and said that the people of the world will soon be able to communicate with their loved ones in any situation, even if they are in the middle of the ocean. Starlink SpaceX’s vice president of sales also said earlier this year that the company is preparing to start testing this service.
SpaceX previously said the service would require larger satellites to be launched on Starship spacecraft. Since this giant spacecraft is not yet ready, SpaceX has to design a medium-sized satellite that can be launched with the Falcon 9. In any case, we have to wait and see how successful this company will be in carrying out its plans.
