The world’s smallest external GPU named GPD G1 has just been tested. This processor can be one of the most effective ways to upgrade your laptop’s graphics without having to replace the internal GPU.
GPD G1 is very similar to a docking station and has many ports. Weighing 867 grams and measuring 225 x 111 x 30 mm, this device has a Radeon RX 7600M XT graphics processor with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.
According to the claim of the website PC Watch, which tested this processor, its performance is equal to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card. PC Watch tested this GPU on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen9 notebook with an Intel Core i7-1165G7 CPU chip and Windows 11 Pro operating system.
This notebook scored 1,373 points without connecting to GPD G1, but when connected to GPD G1, it was able to increase its score by 590% to 8,900. Blue Protocol score also increased from 2,319 to 11,937.
Tests were then conducted using PCMark 10 and PCMark 10 Extended, which showed that adding the GPD G1 increased the notebook’s scores by 17% for the former and 51% for the latter.
This processor can not only increase the performance of the device significantly, but also acts as a docking station, which can make it a great companion for laptops.
The GPD G1 is equipped with three USB-A 3.2 3.2 ports, an SD card reader, two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an OCuLink port, and a USB 4.0 port. There is also a USB Type-C port for charging.
