According to RCO News Agency, Parviz Karmi stated that cancer is known as one of the main causes of death worldwide and killed about 10 million people in 2020, Iran is also facing a significant increase in new cases of this disease. . Predictions show that the number of new cancer cases in Iran will reach 160,000 cases in 2025 from 112,000 cases recorded in 2016. This growth of 42.6%, of which 13.9% is attributed to the increase in risk factors and 28.7% to changes in the population structure, indicates the country’s increasing challenges in dealing with the spread of cancer.

Kerami added: According to reports, the cost of cancer treatment has taken a heavy share of the country’s health budget and has reached 140 thousand billion tomans per year, which has imposed an exorbitant cost on the annual budget.

The secretary of the commercialization committee of the Congress of Concergenomics also stated: In order to reduce these costs and by taking advantage of the innovation capacities in the country and the participation of specialized accelerators, especially the Ampere Innovation Factory and large pharmaceutical companies, an ecosystem has been formed for the prevention and treatment of cancer. The purpose of this action is to reduce the financial burden on the government and families, as well as attract people’s help and the capabilities of insurance companies to invest in knowledge-based companies and produce drugs for the prevention and personalized treatment of cancer.

Kerami added: Networking of knowledge-based companies and startups active in the field of cancer prevention and treatment is aimed at identifying and supporting idea owners, helping to commercialize projects and filling existing gaps in the field of cancer prevention and treatment.

The secretary of the commercialization committee further said: In this congress, we also organized the “Idea to Startup” festival, which presented and attracted more than 50 innovative projects in various fields, including in the field of artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis, targeted nanomedicines, and diagnostic kits. led to After judging these designs, 10 selected teams were identified and introduced to enter the pre-acceleration period at Ampere Innovation Factory. These teams commercialize their ideas on the path of empowerment and benefit from educational and mentorship services and at the end of the course, during the demo day event, they will present their plans to investors.

Holding this congress and the activities carried out in line with it, is an important step in creating a powerful network of researchers, technologists and investors that can increase hopes for better cancer treatment and improving the health of society.

The second International Congress of Conciergenomics was also held on November 2-4 this year in the Summit Hall of Tehran, with the three main axes of science, commercialization, and social responsibility, focusing on molecular diagnosis, targeted therapy, and person-centered medicine.

This congress was held with the aim of developing the frontiers of knowledge, unveiling new technologies in the field of cancer and commercializing research achievements, and provided an opportunity for networking of knowledge-based companies in the ecosystem of fighting cancer.
