A new study by researchers shows that some elements beyond carbon can create chemical reactions that will support the formation of living organisms. Alien life may be without carbon origin, in this context, various methods should be used to search for extraterrestrial life.
According to Tekna’s technology and technology news service, the complex compounds of life on earth are all based on the element carbon. Recently, they have come up with a new idea that suggests that alien life may have a different chemistry. Therefore, a new research has been conducted with the aim of searching for self-catalytic reactions beyond carbon.
In their research, scientists have focused on disjoint hybrid cycles in order to create multiple versions of the same molecule. These new products, if used as starting materials, will also have the ability to be re-formed in cycles. For this reason, self-catalysis is also created.
In this research, the researchers examined the digitized information related to a period of 200 years. Finally, 270 different cycles including self-catalytic reactions were discovered. “Catalysis itself may be contrary to generality in many different environments,” says Betul Kachar, a bioastrophysicist and evolutionary bacteriologist at the University of Wisconsin. They can also have serious differences with Earth.
The discovered cycles are relatively simple and consist of two reactions. In between, only 8 cases are relatively complex and have four reactions. Researchers plan to combine several cycles to create self-sustaining chemical reactions.
