By implementing a pilot plan, the government of Quebec plans to double the capacity of accepting refugees in Quebec City, while meeting the growing needs of the labor force in the National Capital, to reduce the pressure caused by refugees on Montreal and its infrastructure. The first bus carrying 12 refugees New arrivals arrived in Quebec last week, and the Minister of Immigration of Quebec, Christian Fersht, welcomed these young refugees, who were mostly African, and talked with some of them for a few minutes. These people have agreed to leave Montreal and settle in Quebec. In the coming months, another 540 of these asylum seekers will move from Montreal to Quebec. Every Wednesday from November 1st, a bus from Montreal will drop off a number of volunteer asylum seekers on rue Sœurs de la Charité in Old Quebec. They will be accommodated by a refugee support center until they find a place for permanent settlement. In recent years, the vast majority of refugees who have reached Quebec through illegal routes, especially the Roxam Road, have been settled in Montreal.
