Pending cases in the Immigration Department
Last year, the Immigration Department’s inventory of cases was reported to be more than 2.6 million. Applications for tourist visas, work and study permits, and permanent residence applications were among the inventories.
- As of August 31, 2.2 million applications were in the queue.
In addition to keeping families apart, the tourist visa backlog makes Canada less attractive to tourists and business people, according to the Canadian government. Easing the requirements will therefore help ease the processing of backlogged applications and bring application processing times back to pre-pandemic processing times.
Tourist visa applications that were in the system by January 16 were subject to exemptions for financial means and proof of departure from Canada.
