The latest data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada shows that immigration to Canada fell for the third month in a row in August, but if it continues at the same rate it will welcome a record number of new permanent residents by the end of the year.
In August, the country welcomed only 34,925 new permanent residents, which was a decrease of 14.1 percent or 5,750 new permanent residents compared to 40,675 in July.
During the first eight months of this year, Canada has welcomed 338,905 new permanent residents, and if it continues at the same rate and the level of immigration to Canada does not change much, Canada will welcome 508,357 new permanent residents by the end of this year.
In the 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, Ottawa has set its immigration target for 2023 at 465,000 new permanent residents. The country will also welcome 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024 and another 500,000 in 2025.
