Bill Gates, who has been involved in the scandals related to the Epstein cases, has apologized to the staff of the Gates Foundation. He described his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein as a big mistake.
Following the escalation of the so-called Epstein cases, Bill Gates has now taken an apologetic position. He, who had previously withdrawn from the India AI Impact Summit 2026 following critical reactions, publicly apologized to the Gates Foundation staff after the release of new documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, which once again ignited the controversy about his past connections with this criminal.
According to a statement provided to Reuters by a Gates Foundation spokesperson, he accepted responsibility for his actions during a public internal meeting and answered questions about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
During this internal meeting, Gates also admitted that he had contact with people; However, these relationships had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein’s victims. The Microsoft co-founder’s comments came amid a new wave of criticism after media reports republished details of his previous meetings with Jeffrey Epstein.
Criticisms against Gates intensified after the release of records and images of the United States Department of Justice; Documents that pointed to holding several meetings between him and Jeffrey Epstein. Among the documents were pictures showing the Microsoft co-founder posing with women whose faces were covered.
In the same internal meeting, Gates reportedly told staff that spending time with Jeffrey Epstein, as well as involving the foundation’s top executives in meetings with him, was a big mistake. He apologized to the people within the organization who were affected by this issue and said that he also apologized to other people who were involved in this story because of his mistake.
Gates also tried to distance himself from any wrongdoing associated with Jeffrey Epstein. He told staff he did nothing illegal and saw no illegal behavior. He went on to explain that he never spent time with the victims, responding to speculation about the nature of his attendance at meetings related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Earlier this month, the Gates Foundation announced that it had never paid Jeffrey Epstein and had never employed him. The scandal caused Gates to cancel his appearance at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. As one of the world’s leading figures in technology and philanthropy, he was scheduled to speak at the landmark event alongside Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amudi and other industry leaders.
However, just hours before the speech, the Gates Foundation announced that he would no longer participate in the program. The statement stated that this decision was taken with the aim of keeping the focus on the main agenda of the meeting so that attention is not diverted from the key priorities of the artificial intelligence summit. The statement stated that after careful consideration and to ensure that the focus remains on the main priorities of the AI Summit, Mr. Gates will not deliver his keynote address.
