Blizzard Entertainment announced that it will remove the number “2” from the championship shooter Overwatch 2, and the game will be called “Overwatch” from now on. This change coincides with the game entering a new chapter that includes a year-long storyline, 10 new heroes, and more. The first season will begin on February 10, and five of the ten new champions will be playable at launch. Also, a version of the game for the Nintendo Switch 2 console is planned for release next spring.
Blizzard Entertainment announced in a press release:
Overwatch is more than just a number: it’s a living universe that keeps growing, constantly surprising and bringing together players from all over the world. This year marks a big milestone in how the development team views the future of Overwatch, so we’re officially dropping the number “2” and moving forward with the title “Overwatch.”
Starting February 10, players can join an expansive storyline filled with new heroes, exciting in-game events, and dynamic updates that will evolve throughout the year. Overwatch Spotlight 2026 marks a bold new chapter for the franchise by launching a full-length, year-long story arc called The Talon Reign. Under the leadership of the Vendetta, Talon continues its global expansion, while Overwatch struggles to cope with the organization’s growing influence.
Players can follow the development of the story through the following:
- In-game events
- Cinematics and trailers
- Short stories and comics
- Updated maps that reflect story events
- New voice dialogues and character interactions
- and…
The story will end in the sixth season and the next story arc will start in the first season of 2027. Five new heroes, Domina as a tank, Emre and Anran as damage class characters, Mizuki and Jetpack Cat as new support class characters will be added to the game when the update is released. An additional hero will be introduced each season (2-6) with innovative abilities and engaging gameplay, transforming each battle and advancing the unfolding story. The game will also have a crossover with Hello Kitty until February 23, and in the meantime, changes have been made to the sub-characters and passives.
