Guerrilla Games has recently unveiled a new game in the world of Horizon called Horizon Hunters Gathering.
Coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, the game is a “co-op tactical action game” set in the world of the Horizon series. According to the introduction video, the game allows up to three players to team up as Hunters to protect a world threatened by deadly machines.
Gorilla has announced that at launch, players will be able to experience Hunters Gathering solo with non-playable characters (NPCs) or co-op with other players; But in the upcoming public test, only the co-op mode will be available. According to Gorilla, the game also features a story campaign that introduces new secrets, characters, and threats. Gorilla plans to hold a “coach-scale test” at the end of February, which enthusiasts can sign up for through the PlayStation Beta Program. Arjan Bak, the director of the game, who was previously the art director of Zero Down, said:
From the very first ideas that shaped the world of Horizon, our dream was that players could go car hunting together. With a small group of Guerrilla members, including myself, who was the design director at the time, we began to explore what such a thing could look like. Based on our experience in the multiplayer section of Killzone games and the success of Horizon Zero Down, we decided to bring elements of action co-op into the Horizon series.
According to Buck, the game’s combat will be “tactical, reaction-based, and deeply skill-based,” and the gameplay will revolve around hunts that are worth replaying. Players can choose from a roster of unique hunters, each with their own melee or ranged combat style and weapons. There are also different roles for hunters to choose from, combined with a roguelite-style perk system to allow players to create their own custom build.
Between missions, players return to the Hunters Gathering; A hub where they can customize their character, visit vendors, upgrade their equipment and team up for the next mission. Currently, two game modes have been revealed:
- Machine Incursion, a tense mission where waves of machines pour out of underground portals and are ultimately led by a powerful boss.
- and Cauldron Descent, a long, multi-stage challenge where rooms full of machines and ever-changing secret doors push hunters to their limits, rewarding them with power.
It is worth mentioning that since the beginning of the Horizon series in 2017, Gorilla has released Horizon Zero Dawn, Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds expansion pack, Horizon Forbidden West game, Horizon: Call of the Mountain virtual reality game, Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores expansion pack and also Lego Horizon Adventures, all of which have shown high quality. Also, NCSoft has recently unveiled the game Horizon Steel Frontiers; A new role-playing MMO based on the world of Horizon.
