Microsoft unveiled a new test called Portraits for Copyroot in an attempt to bring artificial intelligence closer to users. With this feature you can see artificial intelligence with an animated face during audio conversations.
Portraits is a set of 5 human avatars that you can choose from. When you talk to Copilot audio, this avatar reacts to your talk with face moods, head movements and sync lips in a moment.
Microsoft’s CEO Mustafa Suleiman says that some users feel more comfortable when talking to a face. This capability strives to make the verbal conversations with chats much more natural and closer to a real human dialogue.
New Portraits feature In Microsoft Copylott
The technology behind this feature is an advanced artificial intelligence system called the Vasa-1 developed by the Microsoft Research Team and can only produce all these face animations live from one fixed image.
Microsoft, of course, had previously unveiled a similar feature called Copilot Appeals. But the big difference between the two is that the appeals were based on cartoon and bubble characters, while Portraits focuses on the human appearance.
This approach is also in contrast to the 3D approach of GROK chats in which the characters were “inappropriate for the workplace” or NSFW; Microsoft is moving more cautiously on this path.
Microsoft is aware of the concerns about the harmful interactions with the chat with the Portraits capability. First, all avatars are deliberately designed unrealistic to prevent any counterfeiting. Secondly, clear markers always remind the user that it interacts with an artificial intelligence. Finally, daily time constraints and each conversation are also applied.
Currently, Portraits is an experimental feature available in Copilot Labs and for a limited set of users over the age of 5 in the US, Britain and Canada.
