In its latest announcement, Microsoft announced the end of the Microsoft Lens mobile app; The program, which was initially released as Office Lens from year 4, was known as a simple but practical tool for scanning paper documents, business cards, receipts and notes in formats such as PDF, Word, PowerPoint and image.
According to the company’s new support document, the app will be removed from Android and iOS devices on September 9, and will be withdrawn from Apple and Google stores on November 7. Current users can use its scanning capability by December 5 and then will only access previous files on their device.
In its lifetime, Microsoft Lens, unlike many similar applications, did not force users to pay extra or subscription, offering features such as image improvement filters, high quality blackosophide copies, and merging with services such as OneNote and OneDrive without restriction.
However, according to the Bleeping Computer website, Microsoft 365 Copilot still doesn’t have all Lens capabilities; Including direct storage of scans in OneNote, Word or PowerPoint, or the ability to automatically save business card information in the OneNote. Accessibility features such as “reading” and “Immersive Reader” have also been deleted in Copilot.
The AppFigures website data shows that in the past 7 days, Lens has been downloaded more than 6,000 times and has been installed more than 5 million times since year 2. Microsoft has not yet explained the reason for the decision.
