Threads is an Instagram application that has been available to users since today as a competitor to Twitter. In recent months, Meta has been trying to take advantage of Twitter’s recent woes after its purchase by Elon Musk and offer users a new text-based social network.
Treads is very similar to what was mentioned in the rumors. As expected, this application uses the users’ Instagram account information, and in fact, we are dealing with an extension of the Instagram platform.
Although it is a standalone application, it uses Instagram account integration so that users can easily find and follow accounts they follow on Instagram. This application uses the same login information as Instagram.
Threads is very similar to Twitter, and like Twitter, it has a feed to view posts that users have published. There are other options like like, comment, repost and share, and the app’s user interface includes collapsible strings to prevent the feed from getting too long.
Threads will also integrate with Fediverse, which will allow users to import accounts and followers from apps that support ActivityPub as a decentralized social networking protocol. One of these applications includes Mastodon, which is currently one of the most popular Twitter alternatives.
Now we have to wait and see to what extent this Instagram application will be able to attract Twitter users.
