Nvidia’s efforts to attract the Trump administration appears to have overturned the US -made export restrictions against US -made artificial intelligence chips.
The US Department of Commerce has announced that it has canceled the Artificial Intelligence Rule Law, which was due to be officially implemented tomorrow. The law was enacted by former US President Joe Biden’s government aimed at restricting the number of US -made export artificial intelligence chips to international markets. According to the Ministry of Commerce, there will be a new law to protect US artificial intelligence technology in the future, but no further details have been announced.
The US government had restricted the export of Nvidia chips abroad
In defense of the abolition of the previous law, the Ministry of Commerce said that the law strangled American innovation and confronted companies with new and volatile regulatory requirements. The ministry also says the government’s law has weakened US diplomatic relations with dozens of countries.
The leaflets are issued as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang traveled to Saudi Arabia this week to carry out part of artificial intelligence and chip export to Saudi Arabia.
The purpose of the Artificial Intelligence Diffusion Rule was to prevent access or construction of artificial intelligence technology from previously subject to chip restrictions, such as Russia and China, but also endangered Nvidia’s 5 % share of artificial intelligence chips. Nvidia had read Joe Biden’s law wrong.
In addition to removing extra restrictions against the export of Nvidia chips, the US Department of Commerce has warned companies to use Huawei’s Ascend AI chips anywhere in the world is a violation of US export control agreements. Huawei has recently launched its Ascend artificial intelligence chips to compete with the Nvidia chips and is building new factories in China to produce advanced chips.
