The Roman ancient statue, which has been hidden from the public for almost five years, is displayed in Chicago.
The statue of the Greek goddess Athena will soon be unveiled at an exhibition after three centuries.
The work was purchased in Rome in the 5th century by British politician and collector William Wedel. His Roman complex was sent for his village estate in North Yorkshire. Waldel asked Robert Adam’s architect to design a neoclassical gallery to store his antiquities, where the Athena statue was mounted in a pink niche for about 5 years.
Since the purchase, the statue has been examined by a protective team that has revealed a colorful history about this work. For example it has been found that the statue is made up of various pieces; Its head was built during the Augustus Empire, while its body belongs to the era of Claudius.
It is now set to be in a public exhibition and in front of interested eyes after years. The public performance of the Athena statue in Chicago will be with another collection of Roman marble.
