Apple is going to use TSMC’s 3nm technology in its chips in the coming years, which includes the N3B process to make the A17 bionic chip. This chip will probably be the world’s first mobile processor with 3nm technology. However, Apple may also be one of the first customers of TSMC’s 2nm technology. Apparently, the trial production of this technology will begin soon.
According to Commercial Times report, in addition to Apple, Nvidia will also be a customer of TSMC’s 2nm process. The report does not mention any other company besides these two, and it seems that Apple and Nvidia will be the only companies that will use TSMC’s 2nm technology in their processors. It is said that TSMC has assigned about 1,000 people to the research and development department of this technology, called ‘Fab 20’, and its location is located in Taiwan’s Hsinchu Science Park.
Apple is expected to use 2nm technology in its various products for ordinary customers, but since iPhone phones are the most important source of income for this company, it will probably use this technology in a large amount in its A series chips. On the other hand, in addition to normal customers, Nvidia also produces products for businesses, and it is not yet clear which product of this company will use 2nm technology. Maybe the company wants to use it in their GeForce GPUs.
Recently, it was reported that Apple has reserved about 90% of TSMC’s 3nm process orders, and it is possible that it will use the economic version of this technology called N3E in its A17 and M3 chips. So Apple still has a lot of time to introduce its chips with 2nm technology.
