English legislators’ request for Dr. Abu Sofia’s release and Netanyahu’s trial
While criticizing the crimes of the Zionist regime and emphasizing the necessity of prosecuting the leaders of this regime, British legislators demanded the immediate release of Dr. Hossam Abu Sofia.
According to RCO News Agency, British legislators strongly condemned the attacks of the Zionist regime on Gaza and demanded the immediate release of Dr. Hossam Abu Sofia, the head of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.
John McDonnell, an independent member of the British Parliament, in an interview with the Turkish “Anatolia” News agency, while criticizing the actions of the Zionist regime and the weak position of the British government against this regime, emphasized that the condemnation of these crimes and the request for a ceasefire alone are not enough.
Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials of this regime, McDonnell said: “Yes, we need an immediate ceasefire, but finally we must also punish these war criminals for their actions.”
He condemned the continuous attacks of the Zionist military on relief forces, schools and civilian facilities and considered them as examples of flagrant violations of international laws.
“Netanyahu is a war criminal,” McDonnell said. He bombs hospitals, arrests doctors and medical staff, kills children and bombs refugees in so-called safe areas. These are war crimes and it is essential that these war criminals be brought to justice.”
He also described Dr. Hossam Abusafia as a hero and said: “We know that the Israelis have detained him. We demand his immediate release and we ask Kerr Starmer as the Prime Minister of this country to make such a request, otherwise our country will be an accomplice in these war crimes.”
Terrible and deadly
Richard Bergen, another independent member of the British Parliament, made a similar request and asked the British government to take decisive action.
In a conversation with Anatoly, while emphasizing the need for Abu Sofia’s immediate release, he said: “The scene of Dr. Abu Sofia’s encounter with Israeli tanks in the ruins of a hospital is very terrifying and life-threatening. He should be released now. “Our prime minister and foreign minister should demand his release now.”
Since the beginning of the Gaza war, nearly 150,000 Palestinians have been martyred or injured, most of whom are women and children. Bergen said that the suffering of Dr. Abu Sofia is a symbolic example of the suffering of the entire Palestinian nation in the 15 months that have passed since the beginning of the Gaza war.
According to this report, Israeli attacks have destroyed almost all civilian infrastructure in Gaza, including medical facilities. This has displaced nearly 2 million Gazans who are struggling with famine, disease and hunger.
The Zionist regime is facing a genocide case in the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Yoav Galant, the former war minister of this regime, for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
No to double standards
These two British legislators also asked the British government to stop all arms sales contracts to the Zionist regime and emphasized that these weapons are used to violate human rights and commit war crimes.
In September of last year, the British government canceled only 30 of the 350 licenses it had issued to sell weapons to the Zionist regime. The British government does not directly provide military aid to the Zionist regime, but gives permission to British arms companies to sell their weapons to the Zionist regime.
These suspended licenses include components for military aircraft, helicopters, drones and ground-based targeting systems. However, the British government excluded the sale of spare parts for F-35 fighter jets from the list of suspended licenses and showed that this arms embargo is actually a superficial and ineffective measure.
Bergen also said about the need to stop arms sales to the Zionist regime: “I want the British government to cancel all contracts for the sale of arms to Israel – including F-35 parts – and impose extensive sanctions against Israel.”
Referring to the extensive sanctions imposed by the British government against Russia due to Ukraine’s war, this British lawmaker said: “Enough of the double standard. We want the government to take action to force Netanyahu to a ceasefire, save lives, and end war crimes.”
