Hollywood evacuation order lifted after progress in containing California wildfires
Hollywood’s evacuation order has been lifted after California officials made significant progress in fighting the area’s wildfires, Los Angeles’ mayor announced Thursday.
According to RCO News Agency, massive fires have started on Tuesday in and around Los Angeles in California, which has killed at least five people and forced tens of thousands to evacuate.
According to Sputnik, the mayor of Los Angeles said in a press conference: “On Tuesday, unprecedented winds prevented the continuation of air operations. “However, since yesterday the winds have allowed for aerial operations, which has resulted in significant progress being made against the fires in Hollywood last night, and as of 7:30 a.m. today, the evacuation order in Hollywood has been lifted.”
Forestry and fire protection officials announced that the fire in Los Angeles has spread to more than 15,000 hectares. This fire has burned more than 10,000 hectares by Wednesday afternoon. The initial estimate of the economic losses caused by the fires in California is 52 to 57 billion dollars.
