At the Consumer Electronics Show 2025, Google presented new software and hardware changes for Google TV devices. Software features include integration with Gemini AI, and hardware features include new microphones and proximity sensors.
According to Engget, if you’ve used Google TV or a Google streaming device, you’re probably familiar with the Hey Google command to search for movies and series. With Gemini support added to these devices, these conversations can feel more natural. With this change, after asking a question, you can ask Google artificial intelligence a second question related to the first question and even change the topic of your question.
In addition, you should be able to search for content more easily than before. For example, you could say “What are the latest Disney movies?” It should also be easier to interact with other smart home appliances. For example, if you have a smart doorbell, you can say “Who’s at the door?” to view the relevant image.
TVs are getting smarter with Google TV
The new Google TV experience also includes YouTube videos. For example, if you ask “Where are the best pizzerias in town?” Your TV may suggest a list of videos on this topic.
In order to take advantage of Google’s AI Assistant capabilities, Google TV devices now come with microphones that can pick up sound from long distances. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to get the remote control to talk to artificial intelligence.
Google is also working on a new ambient experience that relies on proximity sensors to activate the on-screen hub to display personalized widgets like weather, news, traffic, and more. Also, when you’re not watching the hub, or watching a movie, the Always-on mode can display artistic images or even screensavers created by Gemina’s artificial intelligence.
The new features on Google TV devices will arrive in 2025, but no exact date is available.
