After months of waiting, Apple has finally released its iOS 18.2 update in the UK. The update included exciting new AI features including custom emoji, a new visual intelligence experience, and access to ChatGPT in Siri. But now it seems that some iPhone users are regretting this update.
According to Tekna Technology News Mobile Media Service, several users have gone to X (Twitter) to express their criticisms regarding the changes to the Mail application in iOS 18.2. In this update, the Mail application comes with new changes, including different categories at the top of the inbox, which has caused some users to be dissatisfied. “The new email app in 18.2 for iPhone is really bad and redesigned,” wrote one user on X. I don’t want it.” Another user added: “Wow! The new Mail app in iOS 18.2 has a bunch of features that no one ever asked for, and it’s made my inbox almost unusable. Great job!” Another user protested: “The new iOS 18.2 email app is absolutely terrible. “Anyone who approved this change should be fired immediately.”
In iOS 18.2, several changes have been applied to the Mail application. One such change is the introduction of the Priority Messages section, which Apple explains: “Priority Messages is a new section at the top of the Mail inbox that shows important emails like lunch invitations or flight tickets.”
Users can also view summaries of emails without opening them and, if desired, click on the summaries to view more details. On the other hand, Apple has introduced four new categories for emails: “Main”, “Transactions”, Updates and Promotions. By default, only “original” emails will be displayed in the inbox, and unread emails will be marked with a red dot. Apple hopes these changes will help iPhone users “get things done faster and easier than ever.”
However, many users did not like these changes. “What are these stupid thumbnails Apple added to the Mail app in iOS 18.2?” one user wrote on Twitter. “They don’t do anything and add nothing to the app,” he added. Another user said: “Apple should make Mail as simple and boring as it used to be. We didn’t need this kind of innovation in iOS 18.2!” “The Mail redesign in iOS 18.2 is so disappointing,” wrote another on Twitter. This was Apple’s chance to fix old problems. “Now I have to hunt for unread emails because it’s no longer clear when I have new email.”
If you are not satisfied with the new changes of iOS 18.2, luckily there is a way to go back to the previous view. To return to the list view, just open the Mail app and tap the three dots in the top corner of the screen. Then select “List View”. Also, if you prefer to see unread emails with a red dot, go to Settings, then select Notifications. Tap on Mail and at the bottom of the screen select “Customize notifications” and enable “All unread messages”.
