Google will release Android 16 with the name of Baklava, breaking the tradition of using alphabetical order in the naming of its Android version.
Google continues to use the code name Dessert for its new versions of Android. The news indicates that Android 16 will be released in the next year under the name of Baklava.
This news was revealed thanks to a change in the AOSP platform code. In this platform, the minimum version of Android SDK 16 is listed as “baklava”. In this way, Google has broken the order of the English alphabet. The code names of the previous versions of Android started in the order of the English alphabet, for example, Android 15 is called “Vanilla Ice Cream” and version 16 was expected to start with the next letter of the English alphabet. But due to the change in the development process of this platform, Google has changed its naming approach in Android 16.
Changes in the Android development process have influenced the choice of password. Google changed the naming scheme of builds by introducing the trunk stable project. For example, Android 14 QPR2 builds start with the letter “A” instead of “U”. Next year, the builds will start with “B”, which could be related to the choice of codename “baklava” for Android 16.
Therefore, while making changes in the development process, Google continues the tradition of using dessert names for Android versions.
