In the near future, Apple plans to unveil the under-display camera technology known as UPC and use it in new phones, including its first foldable iPhone.
According to recent reports, Apple is planning to unveil the under-display camera (UPC) technology for Face ID in new products, possibly in its first foldable iPhone. Previously, many users expected to see this technology in the iPhone 17 series, but according to published news, Apple has delayed its use.
According to the Korean publication The Elec, Apple is waiting for its two main display suppliers, Samsung and LG, to use this technology. Currently, none of these two companies have been able to meet Apple’s needs for providing vision sensors under the display. Samsung is working with Canadian company OTI Lumionics to solve this problem, and LG is also trying to develop its own indigenous technology in this field.
A foldable iPhone with a design similar to the Galaxy Flip is expected to hit the markets in 2026, and Apple could be ready to use this new technology in the same year. However, the company has not yet made its decision on which phone will be equipped with UPC technology first.
