In the specialized meeting of the Virtual Space Research Institute, Iran’s national artificial intelligence document was reviewed and criticized in the presence of officials in the field of technology and innovation. This meeting was attended by Dr. Karim Zahedi, Vice President of Technology, Innovation and Knowledge-Based Economy of the Science and Technology Headquarters of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, Dr. Mohammad Reza Maboudian, Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Commission of the Computer Trade Union System, and Dr. Mohammad Hadi Zahedi, Chairman of the Intelligence Association. Iran’s Artificial Intelligence reviewed the approval process, challenges and future needs of this document.
Criticism of the National Document of Artificial Intelligence
In this meeting, which was held with the presence of experts and those interested in technology and artificial intelligence, Dr. Karim Zahedi, as the first speaker, explained the process of approving the national document of artificial intelligence in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. While explaining the different stages of compiling this document, he pointed out the importance of coordination at the national level for the development of artificial intelligence and Iran’s position among the top 10 countries in the world in this field.
Emphasizing the necessity of upstream documents such as the National Document of Artificial Intelligence, Zahedi said: “Given the rapid developments at the global level, it is necessary for our country to develop artificial intelligence more quickly and accurately.” “This document can act as a coordinating framework to guide different devices towards a common goal.”
The narrative of the approval of the document and the upcoming challenges
Zahedi further explained that the process of approving this document has faced many challenges. He said: “From the beginning of drafting the document to its final approval in 1403, changes in the government and inter-institutional complications made the work process a little long. But finally, with the participation of various institutions, this document was approved in May 1403.”
He explained about the similarities and differences of this document with other upstream documents of the country: “Unlike other documents that usually have a longer time frame, this document was proposed to be for five years, but it was finally approved with a longer-term approach. Zahedi added: “One of the important parts of the document is the priorities set for the next three years, which will be updated in shorter periods of time.”
The role of scientific institutions and associations in the implementation of the document
In the following, Dr. Mohammad Reza Maboudian mentioned the role of scientific institutions in the successful implementation of the document. He explained that scientific associations and institutions, such as the Iranian Artificial Intelligence Association, have a duty to help promote and develop the science of this field.
Maboudian said: “The drafting of regulations and standards related to artificial intelligence is one of the important requirements for the implementation of this document, and associations can act as a scientific arm alongside policy-making institutions.” He also mentioned the establishment of the first scientific research journal in the field of artificial intelligence and holding the first scientific conference of this association this year.
Elite network and artificial intelligence ecosystem
In another part of this meeting, Dr. Mohammad Hadi Naseri, the head of the Iranian Artificial Intelligence Association, discussed the importance of forming an elite network in the field of artificial intelligence. He explained that one of the goals of this association is to form a network of elites inside and outside the country so that they can contribute to the development of Iran’s artificial intelligence ecosystem by participating in this field.
Naseri emphasized: “The presence of Iranian elites in prominent international companies is a great opportunity for us. By forming a network of these people, we should take advantage of their knowledge and experience in the development of the country’s artificial intelligence.”
Challenges and opportunities ahead of the National Artificial Intelligence document
Referring to the importance of the national artificial intelligence document, Naseri said: “Our country needed a comprehensive document in the field of artificial intelligence, and reviewing this document in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution is a smart move. But we hope that this document can be reviewed and amended in the shortest possible time.”
In the end, he mentioned the challenges facing the implementation of this document and said: “Implementation of this document is not possible without inter-institutional coordination and we need more cooperation in this field.”
The review and criticism meeting of Iran’s national artificial intelligence document, with the presence of experts and officials in the field of technology, reviewed the challenges and opportunities of this document. From the importance of the approval of this document and its role in guiding the development of artificial intelligence in the country to the necessity of cooperation between scientific institutions and the formation of elite networks, all these topics show the importance of artificial intelligence in the future of Iran.
