Canada's Technology Talent Strategy
On June 27 of last year, Immigration Canada launched the Technology Talent Strategy to help “attract global technology talent to Canada.” Because, considering the importance of the technology sector for the Canadian economy, it is vital to attract such talents in the country.
In addition to positioning Canada as an attractive destination for digital nomads, the strategy includes several measures such as creating a new innovation pathway Under the Commercial Worker Visa Program (IMP) Was. This new route was predicted for the end of 2023, but nothing has been announced about it yet.
The proposed innovation pathway will be exempt from the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) certification process. It aims to help employers and the workforce in the technology industry.
In addition, the Immigration Department introduced a simplified work permit for H1-B specialized occupation visa holders. On July 16, 2023, it was announced that this program will be open for one year or until the number of applications reaches 10,000 people (main applicant).
Also, according to the Immigration Department, in existing technology programs such as Global Skills Strategy Improvements will be made. Through the Global Skills Strategy, Canadian employers hiring foreign workers in certain IT occupations will benefit from expedited LMIA processing.
