Putin on Friday at a conference about Russia’s ambitions in the field Artificial ielligence talked. In his speech, he meioned a new national strategy for the developme of artificial ielligence to couer the West.
At the Artificial Ielligence Journey conference in Moscow on Friday, Russian Preside Vladimir Putin announced plans for a new national strategy to develop artificial ielligence to couer Western influence on the technology.
He said in his words:
“Our iernal AI models must reflect the eire wealth and diversity of global culture, heritage, knowledge and wisdom of all civilizations.”
Putin, who outlined the goals of the new strategy during his speech, said Russia would increase its research io generative artificial ielligence and large-scale language models.
To achieve this goal, Russia will increase its power in the field of supercomputers, as well as improve high-level artificial ielligence training. In addition, Putin said that Russia will work to achieve its goals in terms of changing laws and strengthening iernational cooperation.
Putin’s criticism of curre artificial ielligence models
The Russian preside lameed that existing AI models work in “selective” or “biased” ways and poteially ignore Russian culture, as they are often trained to solve tasks using English datasets. According to him, in this situation, a special algorithm can tell the artificial ielligence that “our Russia, culture, science, music and literature do not exist”, which will lead to “a kind of subversion of the digital space”.
While Putin made his statemes regarding artificial ielligence, English-speaking couries are currely dominating research in this field. According to Stanford’s Human Ceered Artificial Ielligence Institute (HAI), the United States and the United Kingdom have the largest number of large machine learning systems.
