NASA plans to make ambitious trips to the moon in the coming years, and now scientists have proposed a new way to build roads and landing platforms on the surface of this planet.
Scientists have developed a method to create roads and landing pads on the moon using powerful lasers. Since the movement of objects as well as the landing of spacecraft on the surface of the moon causes a large amount of dust to be thrown out, due to the weak gravity of the moon, this dust remains in the air for a longer period of time than on the earth, which can cause in the long run damage to the equipment. Therefore, building roads and landing platforms on the surface of the moon can be very helpful.
In this method, mirrors, lasers, and lens-like devices that focus sunlight are used to melt the dust. Scientists then pour these molten materials into grid patterns on the surface of the moon to create a new pavement.
Space agencies are trying to find ways to use the Moon’s natural resources to increase the productivity of their future missions. Many missions have been carried out this year as well.
Two of these missions, conducted by Russia and a private Japanese company, failed because the spacecraft crashed on the lunar surface. However, India became the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon in August, after Russia, the US and China.
NASA is also going to carry out the Artemis mission to send humans to the moon in the next few years. Also, NASA and China have plans to establish nuclear-powered bases near the surface of the moon, and 3D printers may build houses on the surface of the moon by 2040.
