Google has just released Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 for Google Pixel phones and based on the current state of the operating system, this version is considered to be the last release based on Android 16. Now the company has officially confirmed that it is working on Android 17 and the first beta version will be released soon.
Google has announced that the first public beta of Android 17 will be released soon. It is noteworthy that this version will not be a Developer Preview. If you have followed the development cycles of previous versions of Android, you know that usually the first builds were released as Developer Preview; For example, Android 16 had two Developer Preview versions, followed by beta versions. But this trend has changed this year with Android 17.
Google announced that Android 17 Beta 1 builds on the Android 16 QPR platform release and includes the latest bug fixes and improvements related to stability and performance. Previous leaks have hinted at the addition of several new features as well as enhanced gaming capabilities in this version, among many other improvements. More details of the changes will be revealed when the first beta version is officially released. This version may be available from this month or next month, while the stable version of Android 17 is expected to be released around June.
As usual, Google Pixel users will be the first to receive this update. Users currently running Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 who choose to remain in the Android Beta Program will automatically receive the Android 17 Beta 1 update. If they do not wish to receive the beta version, they should exit the beta program.
As for other brands, the Android 17 beta is expected to roll out to select devices a few weeks after the release for Google’s Pixel phones.
