Dario Amodi, CEO of Entropic, warned at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos about the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, saying that in six to 12 months, artificial intelligence models could do most of the work of software engineers. He emphasized that this development can fundamentally change the current role of programmers.
Amudi explained that some Entropic engineers are now coding with the help of artificial intelligence models and only undertake the editing and finishing part of the work. He says:
“I have engineers at Entropic who say they don’t write code anymore, the model writes the code, they edit and do the finishing touches.”
His words show that artificial intelligence has become the main software development tool in Entropic company.
Predicting the future of artificial intelligence for programmers
The CEO of Anthropic also talked about the speed of progress of artificial intelligence in a conversation with the Economist magazine in the presence of Demis Hesabis, the CEO of Google DeepMind. He said:
“I think we’re maybe six to 12 months away from AI taking over most or maybe all of the work that software engineers do end-to-end.”

Amodi further pointed to parts of this “cycle” that he said are still beyond the power of artificial intelligence. He cited chip manufacturing, hardware production, and the training process of large models as examples that still require physical infrastructure, heavy investment, and specialized manpower. He says it is not yet possible to say with certainty which sectors will be automated the fastest and at what speed.
The Anthropic CEO’s comments have drawn a wide range of reactions among social media users, most of which indicate that one part of the tech community is skeptical of his prediction, while another sees it as a serious alarm for current jobs. He had already made a similar claim last year.
