According to published information, Apple’s first foldable phone is going to be equipped with the largest battery used in the history of the iPhone. The well-known whistleblower named Instant Digital has announced on the Chinese social network Weibo that the iPhone Fold, which is expected to be unveiled later this year at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Air 2 series, will use a very large battery.
Instant Digital claims that the iPhone Fold, which uses a book-folding design, will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 5500 mAh. Currently, the iPhone with the largest battery among Apple products is the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which uses a 4,823 mAh battery.
If the information from Instant Digital is correct, the iPhone Fold will have a larger battery than the two competing foldable phones from Samsung and Google; That is, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is equipped with a 4400 mAh battery, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold uses a 5015 mAh battery. However, until the expected introduction of the iPhone Fold in September, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be Samsung’s main competitor for the phone.
Early speculation suggests that Samsung plans to increase the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s battery capacity to 5,000 mAh from 4,400 mAh, which has been used in all models since the Fold 3 was introduced in 2021. Also, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is expected to be released before the iPhone Fold, and according to rumors, this model may be equipped with a battery with a capacity between 5100 and even 6000 mAh.
Thanks to the use of silicon-carbon battery technology, flip phones are now able to use higher capacity batteries. Currently, the record for the largest battery among flip phones belongs to the Vivo X Fold 5 5G, which uses a 6,000 mAh battery.
According to the latest rumors published last month, the possible specifications of the iPhone Fold are as follows:
- 7.8-inch internal display without visible creases
- 5.5 inch external display
- The thickness is 9 mm in the closed state and 4.5 mm in the open state
- A total of 4 cameras; One camera on the outer display, two cameras on the camera strip on the back of the device when closed and one camera on the inner display
- Touch ID sensor integrated with the power button of the device
- A20 Pro chip made by TSMC with 2 nm production process along with 12 GB of RAM
If the price range of 2,000 to 2,500 dollars is correct, the iPhone Fold will become the most expensive iPhone model in the history of Apple.
