OpenAI from a new scientific workspace named “Prism» announced that it is available for free to all ChatGPT account holders. This tool, which is actually a word processor and research tool, with the model GPT-5.2 It is provided and can be used in areas such as evaluating claims, revising scientific texts or searching for previous research.
As OpenAI explained on its blog, Prism cannot conduct research on its own without human supervision and is designed to speed up scientists’ work. This startup combines the functionality of its new tool with popular programming interfaces, including Cursor and Windsurfing compared that they have revolutionized the way of coding.
Prism is accessible through a web application and was released while OpenAI has faced many scientific questions in its products such as ChatGPT. According to the company, ChatGPT avg 8.4 million per week receives scientific messages, although it is not clear exactly how many of these messages are sent by professional researchers.
OpenAI says in its blog post:
“In axiomatic domains, advanced models can help uncover evidence, test hypotheses, and identify relationships that require significant human effort.”
Main features of OpenAI Prism
Much of the value of the new OpenAI system comes from improving existing standards. Prism from a popular open source system called LaTeX It supports the formatting and typesetting of scientific articles, but it has more features than most of the tools that are equipped with it. The program also leverages GPT-5.2’s visualization capabilities to allow researchers to create graphs directly, addressing one of the main challenges of current tools.

But Prism’s most powerful feature is probably combining the power of artificial intelligence models with finer context management. When users open the ChatGPT window through Prism, the model can access all fields of the research project. This makes the answers both more relevant and more intelligent.
“Kevin Weil”, vice president of OpenAI’s science department, said at the press conference introducing this tool:
“I think 2026 will play the same role for AI and science as 2025 played for AI and software engineering.”
Although many of Prism’s features are accessible to a professional user through the GPT-5.2 model, OpenAI says that Prism’s more focused user interface will attract scientific researchers more quickly.
