Samsung is entering the final stages of preparations for the launch of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is expected to be unveiled in late February. As usual, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is at the top of the range, promising the most premium hardware and features. However, compared to last year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, we probably won’t see any drastic changes or upgrades. It looks like Samsung is saving the major camera upgrades for the next generation, the Galaxy S27 Ultra next year.
According to a well-known whistleblower, Ice Universe, Samsung has already started planning three major camera upgrades for the Galaxy S27 Ultra; A subject that suggests a more aggressive leap after the relatively conservative Galaxy S26 generation. According to the source, upgrades will include a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 12-megapixel selfie camera.
The source also adds that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the same telephoto camera as the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, it is not clear if both the 3x and 5x magnification units will remain unchanged or if only the 5x unit will be fixed. It’s worth noting that there are conflicting rumors about the 3x zoom camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Some talk about keeping the 10-megapixel sensor unchanged, while others point to the use of a new sensor with a resolution of 10 or 12 megapixels.
As for the 5x unit, this module uses the 50-megapixel sensor that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24 Ultra and is supposed to carry over to the Galaxy S26 Ultra unchanged. Even if the 2027 model retains the same 5x zoom lens, expect Samsung to at least upgrade to a 3x unit, provided the Galaxy S26 Ultra doesn’t receive such an upgrade before then.
It is interesting to note that other rumors also report the upgrade of the 12-megapixel selfie camera of the Galaxy S26 Ultra this year. However, Samsung doesn’t usually change cameras every year, so one of these claims is probably false. More details will be revealed as we get closer to the introduction of the Galaxy S26 series, which is less than 2 months away. Until then, it’s best to treat this Galaxy S27 Ultra leak with caution.
