Samsung has started renovating the Bixby voice assistant in collaboration with Perplexity, and now there are hints of it in action ahead of the official launch of the Galaxy S26 series.
Spotted in the latest One UI 8.5 beta, the update reportedly boosts Bixby’s AI capabilities, letting users ask more complex questions and receive web-based answers.
Reconstruction of Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant with Perplexity
Previously, Bixby was only able to perform basic tasks such as changing device settings or opening apps, and depended on Google Gemina to answer deeper questions, but with this collaboration, Perplexity comes in as a supporter of complex answers and takes Bixby’s user experience to a higher level. Recently, a user named @achultra shared an image on X social network that shows that Bixby’s answers are going to be provided with support for Perplexity.
In the latest tests, users have observed that Bixby version 4.0.50.4 is able to answer detailed questions about the weather; A feature that did not exist in previous versions. This update marks Bixby’s significant improvement in providing accurate and actionable information, making it a serious competitor to Gemina. The presence of this feature in the beta version of One UI 8.5 shows that Samsung is fast-tracking its preparation and testing before the official launch of the Galaxy S26 series.
In addition, Samsung previously provided free access to Perplexity Pro for its phone users and used Perplexity-based responses in its TVs and other smart devices. However, this is the first time we have seen signs of this technology being integrated into smartphones.
With the development of this feature and its wide release, instead of relying entirely on Google’s Gemina, Galaxy users can benefit from a smart and powerful assistant that is able to provide accurate, documented and web-based answers and bring Samsung’s artificial intelligence user experience to a new level.
