Hossein Afshin, the president’s vice president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy, emphasized during his visit to “Iran’s Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Campus” that the development of artificial intelligence is possible not by slogans, but by building a real product; Products that have been put together for the first time today to be a practical answer to years of discussion and policy making.
According to Ecomotive, quoting the Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, this visit was made today, January 2, 1404, in the presence of Mohammad Reza Aref, First Vice President and Hossein Simai Saraf, Minister of Science, Research and Technology.
Moving from talking to making a product
Referring to years of discussions, drafting documents and holding meetings in the field of artificial intelligence, Afshin said: “There was always this question, where is the outcome of all these discussions?” Today, these products are the answer to the same question; “Not in the sense that everything is complete or we have no more problems, but in the sense that we have passed the word and entered the construction phase.”
Artificial intelligence does not move forward with slogans
Emphasizing the practical nature of technology development, the scientific deputy of the president stated: “Artificial intelligence does not advance with good intentions or slogans; It only goes by making; By trial and error, by mistake and by rebuilding.
He considered the placement of 70 products together in this campus as a sign of acceptance of risk and entering into real work and added: “The fact that 70 products have been placed together today means that a group has taken risks, put in time and accepted that real work is always difficult.”
A lag of decision, not of knowledge
Referring to the countries’ experience in developing new technologies, Afshin said: “Countries usually do not lag behind in terms of knowledge; What holds countries back is late decision-making; Deciding too late to pass the word, too late to trust the manufacturer and too late to allow the build, even if the product isn’t perfect.”
He considered Iran’s Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Campus to be the result of this decision and emphasized that “making is more important than talking.”
Real product, not slides and reports
Referring to the gradual nature of the development of technological products, the scientific deputy of the president stated: “These products are not the end of the road, they are the beginning of a path; A way to learn from the actual product, not from slides and reports.”
He considered it normal that some of these products need to be improved or even abandoned and warned: “It is bad to not build anything and only talk about the future.”
Afshin said about the role of governing and supporting institutions: “At the Scientific Vice-Chancellor and the National Elite Foundation, our duty is not to tell you what to build; Our mission is that if you build, you will not be alone. If you take a risk, get support and if you hit a dead end, get another chance.”
artificial intelligence; Complementary to human decision making
The president’s vice president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy further emphasized: “Artificial intelligence is not going to replace humans; It’s supposed to help us make better decisions, and that’s only possible when the real product is on the table.”
Referring to the future of these products, Afshin said: “These products have a simple expectation; We have to give them a chance. I hope that next year, instead of unveiling, we will talk about the usage experience, the real effects and the issues that have been solved. The future is not made with words; It is made with real work.”
